The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the schedule for HBL PSL 9. The matches will start on 17 February 2024. However, Peshawar Zalmi is quite unhappy with the board regarding this schedule. There are a lot of reasons why they are concerned about the timetable for this season. The issues have been building up for quite some time now. So if you are a Zalmi fan and want to keep yourself updated about the recent developments, keep reading the article.

Dissatisfied with PCB – Irregular distribution
Firstly, the Zalims are dissatisfied with the PCB regarding the irregular distribution of the matches. They wanted to host some matches in their home ground (an issue which we will discuss later), but that didn’t happen. Then, they put forward some suggestions regarding the distribution of their matches across different venues in Pakistan. That didn’t go as per their plans as well.
The Zalmis are only getting 4 matches in Rawalpindi and one match in Karachi. This is not what the management put forward to the PCB when they were talking about the schedule. They wanted 5 matches in Pindi and 3 matches in Karachi as they have a strong fanbase in those cities. However, PCB went against this plan, which made the team management quite unhappy.

After PCB announced the schedule, Peshawar Zalmi went to the authorities and asked them to allocate the four matches in Lahore to the other two cities they had proposed. But that didn’t happen at all.
“Not only are Peshawar Zalmi fans disheartened with the current schedule, but the team’s Commercial and Marketing Department is also facing challenges and reservations. Despite playing a pivotal role in promoting and popularising the PSL, Zalmi emphasises the need for the PCB to carefully consider the interests of all franchises in the scheduling process.“

No matches at the home ground
Also, they have been asking the board to allocate some matches in their home ground. Peshawar Zalmi has made the brand of PSL quite popular. They have had players like Kamran Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, and Wahab Riaz.
However, the fans have been kept away from cheering their team in Peshawar. The Zalmis went to PCB and tried to influence the decision-making process. However, they failed to set Peshawar as a venue for HBL PSL 9. The PCB chairman announced the four venues on 13 December during the draft day.
Fans will be disappointed
All of these things have disappointed the fans. Peshawar Zalmi is the winner of HBL PSL 2 and is one of the bigger teams in the league. They have a fanbase across Pakistan, especially in Rawalpindi and Karachi. However, they are not even able to hold more matches in those cities.
Concluding remarks
SL is a brand. But the franchises make PSL what it is. Without the teams and the fanbase, the PSL authorities cannot make everything happen. PCB should look into this matter.
Peshawar will start its campaign against Quetta Gladiators on 18 February 2024. The match will happen in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Fans are requested to buy the tickets and support their favourite teams as much as they can.
