Women’s IPL is just around the corner. The tournament may start on 4 March and end on 24 March 2024. BCCI has announced that they will replace the older T20 tournament for women with Women’s IPL. In this article, we will talk about the schedule of this tournament and the teams that will likely participate in it. Understanding the tournament’s format will also help us predict how many matches will be played in this championship. So let’s get started.

WPL 2 Schedule

As far as the schedule is concerned, the proposed date is March 2024, following the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 but before the commencement of the men’s IPL. The talk in the town is that the tournament will start on 4 March. Right now, the detailed official schedule isn’t out. Format

The format is round-robin and then a knockout stage. This means that each team will play the same team twice. Then according to the points table, the top teams will play in the playoff stage. As of right now, there are 5 teams owned by different groups. So, you can say that each team will play at least 8 matches in the group stages. The top team will qualify for the finals directly, while the 2nd and 3rd on the points table will play an eliminator. The winner of that match will play in the final. Hence, now, with the 5 teams, this IPL for women will have 22 matches.

Number of teams In WIPL 2024

The number of groups that won the bidding wars for the team rights is 5. This means that BCCI has sold the rights of 5 teams. We have already updated this news on our website, but you can see the following table for your convenience.

Expected number of teams in the future

As of right now, the number of teams may increase. BCCI claims that the franchise owners will take up the name of the city and set up the stadium in that city as their home ground. They gave the names of 10 cities. This means that there can be at least 5 more teams just like Men’s IPL. Follwoing is 5 additional teams that may be included in the future.

Conclusion

The tournament may start on the 4th of March 2023. In the current scenario, there are 5 teams and each team will play at least 8 matches. This means that we are looking at least 22 matches, including one eliminator and one grand finale. Hence, the final expected date for the tournament is 24 March. BCCI is trying to manage Women’s IPL between the World Cup and men’s IPL.
