WIPL Player Auction Date

Initially, the BCCI planned to host the cricketers’ bidding on February 6 in Mumbai, giving the five newly formed teams a little below a month to prepare for the first WPL campaign, which is scheduled to take place from March 4 to 24. But, the BCCI was obliged to alter that strategy due to two factors.

  1. First, most of the 5 WPL franchise owners also own clubs in the ILT20 in the UAE and the SA20 in South Africa, both of which have finals planned on February 12 and 11. It might generate issues for the clubs since their shareholders and support personnel wish to remain with them for the knockout stages and attend the WPL player bidding, which will be conducted in separate countries.
  2. The second reason is that the franchises have had limited time to assemble their coaching staff, which would be a key factor while picking players at the auction. Accordingly, it is understood that the franchises collectively requested the BCCI to postpone the auction from February 6 to a later date.

Mumbai as a host for the first WIPL

The BCCI has designated two sites in Mumbai to conduct the first WPL season:

  1. Brabourne Stadium
  2. DY Patil Cricket Academy

The main reason for confining the tournament to one location is the BCCI’s worry about technical hurdles due to the WPL commencing soon to the Women’s T20 World Cup, which concludes on February 26 in South Africa.

With less than one week to go to India, competing at two grounds within the same city will eliminate travel hurdles and keep players prepared for the games that would be contested in a limited time frame.

Women’s IPL auction might have gotten postponed due to some other reasons

Yeah, you heard that right. The auction might get delayed some more. But because of an exciting reason. While the reasons mentioned above are pretty valid and logical, there was another reason for this as well. We all know what marriage season is like in the subcontinent. It is similar to a festival.

The IPL Live Steaming 2024 has also been updated.

Owing to the marriage season, most of the venues are completely booked. It has been quite hard for BCCI to book a hall for this auction anyway. This situation is hilarious. What if this was the reason altogether? Well, if it is true, this is the greatest punch line ever.

Conclusion

The auction will be either on 11 or 13 February. The five team owners are set to throw millions of dollars to get the best players for their teams. Mumbai may host this auction along with the entire tournament. It may also get postponed, but let’s wait for BCCI’s official announcement.
