Rise and fall of Pakistan’s once regular opener
Ahmad Shahzad was once the first choice when selecting openers for the Pakistan Cricket Team. However, not performing consistently and having poor numbers got him out of the team. Nonetheless, the opening batsman didn’t lose hope and continued playing domestic cricket even if he got many offers from international T20 leagues. However, it has been 4 seasons since any franchise in PSL Drafts picked Ahmad Shahzad. The last time he played Pakistan Super League was back in PSL 5. He has represented Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators in PSL so far.

The former Pakistani opener wrote that he isn’t going to play with the current 6 franchises anymore, as these people are seemingly in cahoots to keep him away from PSL. However, it leaves a little window for the batter to return to PSL if a new team is introduced in HBL PSL. But this idea seems far-fetched.
Hints as to why he is giving up on PSL
While Ahmad thanked his fans for supporting him, he assured them that he would never give in to unfair demands or anything that let his country down. He further went on about how being patriotic and putting your country first goes against you in this day and age. Ahmad Shahzad ended the note by thanking Allah Almighty that he always stood firm on moral responsibilities and never did anything that let his country, family, or friends down.
Are these hints to possible reasons as to why he is giving up on playing PSL? You all might remember the recent incident regarding players involved in some company and the conflict of interest that came with it. Is there something to do with that?
Fan’s reactions
Fans have mixed reactions. Some are sympathetic towards him, while others are against him, pointing towards his low strike rate as a reason for him not getting picked in PSL anymore. Whatever the case, you can also tell us what you think in the comments section.
Conclusion
While this might look like an emotional meltdown from a player who hasn’t gotten picked by any team in the last 4 PSL drafts, we also have to consider the possibility that something is wrong with the system. Some people argue logically about Ahmad Shahzad and other players like Umar Akmal and Haider Ali not getting picked. But a lot has happened recently. And this opens the possibility of something fishy. What do you guys think? Share with us in the comments section.
