Match details
First innings
Only Rohit Sharma batted like the usual Indian batsman, the flare, the aggression, and the ball going out of the park.
After that, the Sri Lankan magic started to make its way through the Indian batting lineup. The spinners took all the wickets.
Seems like the home advantage was real this time. Wellalage took the five wickets, which is great. But you must appreciate how Asalanka took the 4 wickets quickly. This toppled India’s hopes of putting up a good target.
- India appeared to be on track for another large total until Dunith Wellalage arrived and turned things around.
- Got the top three and then the crucial KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya wickets. But it was Asalanka’s off-breaks who provided a four-fer for Wellalage.
- The pitch aided the spinners, and it also spun swiftly.
- Shanaka recognized this and passed the ball to DdS and Asalanka, who rewarded Shanaka’s confidence with a strong performance.

Second innings
It was an easy target. But the Sri Lankan batting lineup messed up big time. If not for the partnership between Wellalage and DDS, it was a humiliating end for the hosts. Props to Yadav and Jadeja for blitzing through the Lankan batsmen.
Also, Bumrah and Siraj were the only pacers in this match to take wickets. Other than them, spinners ruled the day today. But one rash shot from Dhanajaya de Silva ruined Sri Lanka’s chances for the game.
- Bumrah and Siraj got three early wickets to demolish the top order, and then Kuldeep Yadav came in and shattered Sadeera and Asalanka’s stand.
- Then Jadeja took control, reducing Sri Lanka to 99/6, but DdS and Wellalage fought back with a 63-run partnership.
- At that point, Sri Lanka was somewhat ahead, but DdS’s attempt to hit a boundary holed out, and the others caved in despite Wellalage’s efforts.

Man of the match
Although from the losing side, Wellalage deserved the man of the match award. The way he destroyed the in-form Bharat batsmen is something that speaks volumes about his class. Not only that, but he contributed majorly to the batting department as well. This sort of Allround performance overshadowed Rohit’s 50 or Yadav’s four wickets.
