Disney Star, which will broadcast IPL games on its sports channels, is now seeking considerably less money in sponsorships. Disney Star charges Rs 12.8 12,000 for 10 seconds on SD channels and Rs 5.45 lakh for 10 seconds on HD channels. This is less than what they requested in the past, making advertising cheaper.

However, the picture was different last year. Let’s see how.

Disney Star has previously requested additional money for TV ads during the IPL. In 2023, they requested between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 17.5 lakh for a 10-second advertisement. In 2022, it was Rs 14.5 lakh for the same period. They are currently cutting the pricing, which may encourage more firms to advertise during the IPL 2024.

Viacom stands its ground

Viacom18, on the other hand, will continue to show the IPL for free on JioCinema, with rates unchanged from last year. They expect to pay between Rs 200 and Rs 250 for a 10-second mid-roll ad and Rs 250 to Rs 300 for a 10-second pre-roll ad.

Conclusion

Disney Star’s changing ad costs indicate a desire to compete with other broadcasters. It also makes many question how a combination with Viacom18 will affect things. As the enthusiasm for the IPL rises, advertisers will pay attention to these developments to make informed decisions in the ever-changing advertising landscape. Advertising plays a huge role in making all the money for the franchises.
