First Innings – Bangladesh 334-5

We told you in our match predictions that this pith is a 300-run pitch. And this is precisely what happened in this match. Even if Bangladesh lost some early wickets, they kept wickets at hand and kept pushing the runs at 5 rpo until half of the innings. The stars of the previous show, Shanto and Mehdi, are the authors of this inning. If not for him getting retired hurt, he could have steered the team to an even higher score. Let’s see what happened in this match.

  • Mehidy Hasan and Shanto’s centuries propelled Bangladesh to a mammoth first-innings total of 334/5.
  • Naim got Bangladesh off to a fast start, but the southpaw left after only a cameo.
  • Hridoy was ejected for a duck, but a brilliant collaboration between Shanto and Miraz followed.
  • Both hitters scored hundreds in the process, assisting their side in reaching such a lofty total.
  • Mushfiq and Shakib made brief appearances at the finish to help the squad pass the 330-run milestone.
  • Afghanistan’s bowlers had a bad day, as most of them were costly. Their fielding wasn’t much better, either.

Afghanistan 245-10

It was not an easy task for Bangladesh. However, their players were aware of the situation in Lahore’s stadium. Most of the players from the team have played their fair share of PSL. But this didn’t save them from a batting collapse as well. There was some resistance, but it wasn’t enough. Let’s have a look.

  • Bangladesh’s terrific win will almost certainly qualify for the Super Fours. They may have lost against Sri Lanka, but Bangladesh was out for success today.
  • The Bangladesh openers got them off to a quick start earlier in the day, and centuries by Miraz and Shanto powered them to a mammoth total, not to mention cameos by Shakib and Mushfiq.
  • In response, Afghanistan lost an early wicket in the shape of Gurbaz, and the Afghan top-order batsmen, particularly Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah, retreated into a shell.
  • Ibrahim Zadran did have an exciting innings, although few of his strokes came after he had reached fifty.
  • Afghanistan were never in the game, notwithstanding Shahidi’s fifty.
  • Rashid Khan pushed a few boundaries at the finish, but it was never enough.

Man of the match

Mehdi became the man of the match. He may not have the best track record in the ODIs. However, he has emerged as one of the best ODI players Bangladesh has in the squad. His century and a wicket have helped Bangladesh reach the next stage. A well deserved award for him!
