Prepare for some cricket action as the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction for the 2024 season begins! The big day will take place on December 9 in Mumbai, when clubs will compete to choose the top athletes for their squads.
What makes it even more exciting is that each team receives an additional INR 1.5 crore to spend on top of what they received from the previous auction and player releases.
This auction has 30 places available, including nine for international players. Teams have been strategizing their movements since it is possible to assemble some super-strong squads with 60 players already retained and 29 released.
It will be a tight fight as teams strive to sign the players they like. While we know when the auction will take place, we have yet to learn anything about the competition.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not revealed the dates or if the event will take place in many locations or just one. The tension is rising, and everyone is waiting to see how it plays out.
Remember how exciting the previous auction was? Seven players received offers as high as INR 2 crore, while three players exceeded INR 3 crore! Star players like Smriti Mandhana, Ashleigh Gardner, and Nat Sciver-Brunt received lucrative contracts, demonstrating how far women’s cricket has progressed.
So mark your calendars for December 9 and brace yourself for some exciting moments as teams make moves and form their squads for the WPL 2024 season. It will be a cricket spectacle you will not want to miss!
