The Kiwis will look forward to strengthening their position on the points table even more. They are at the top. However, every team is in the same group. The format is such that they cannot get comfortable without having a solid position. They have played two finals in a row and will be eyeing for a third one.
At the very least, Bangladesh has cemented itself as a minor team to a mid-tier squad. Looking at their chances in the World Cups before and their performance now, you will see a stark difference.
There’s too much excitement, mate. You gotta watch these matches live.
So, who will win the match this time? They have had a series just recently. The bilateral series wasn’t anything significant for the hosts, Bangladesh. However, they know what they are going to face. The same goes for the Black Caps.
The obvious option here is the Kiwis. However, let’s discuss how we came to that conclusion.
NEW ZEALAND | BANGLADESH |
---|---|
Rachin Ravindra | Najmul Hossain Shanto |
Devon Conway | Mehidy Hassan |
Matt Henry | Shakib Al Hasan |
Mitchell Santner | Shoriful Islam |
Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway are enjoying a great World Cup. They are scoring runs, and it doesn’t seem like they will stop. Rachin is a valuable addition to the team. He is emerging as a proper allrounder in ODI cricket. Devon Conway scored the fastest ton for New Zealand in the World Cup history.

Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner are stars you want to look out for in the bowling department. Santner is different from Ravindra. He bowls slower, looks for that drift, and restricts those runs. Matt Henry has taken up the role Tim Southee used to play. He is going to take some wickets with that new ball. But look out for Rachin and Santner; this pitch suits spinners.

Shakib and Mehedi are stars of the show. There is no doubt about it. But Shoriful and Shanto have made a name for themselves lately. Shanto scores runs while the cheeky Shoriful takes those wickets, and the numbers are improving. Mehidy Hasan Mirza will be critical to their innings.
However, Bangladesh’s squad isn’t as solid as the Kiwis.

New Zealand takes the stage here as well. Bangladesh hasn’t won an ODI match against them since 2021. And they always won by huge margins. Things aren’t looking suitable for Bangladesh.
Let’s talk about the pitch conditions. The surface on Chennai serves the spinners. It is the best bowling track for the slower bowlers. And even among the spinners, left-arm spinners have the lowest economy rates. This means we can enjoy a good show from Shakib, Santner, and Mehedi.
New Zealand has two left-arm spinners. Rachin and Santner are in good form. Shakib and Mehedi will be practical as well. So it all comes down to how the batters can manage the spin. And the Black Caps seem to be taking the mantle there.
We will update this during the match.
The Black Caps won the toss, and they chose to field first. It’s pretty much similar to what other teams have been doing.

Lockie Ferguson has earned this one. He took those crucial wickets early on in the game. And you can say that Shakib’s wicket really put a dent on any efforts Bangladesh could have shown. Great bowling from a pacer, especially on these sort of pitches.
